You Can’t Handle the Truth

This week in my devotions I was reading in the book of Jeremiah.  Now if you have never read Jeremiah, it is not an easy book to read.  It is a bit of a downer.  Jeremiah was a prophet of the Lord and God gave him a lot of bad news to share with the [...]

Open Wide Your Mouth

Today in my devotions I came across Psalm 81:10, “I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt.  Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.”  That is a beautiful and powerful verse.  When I think of it, I get the picture of a nest of baby birds with their [...]

Passing By

So I am writing this blog while sitting at Dunn Bros. on Chestnut Street (41) in beautiful downtown Chaska, Minnesota.  It is a little more empty than normal for this time of day, and there is a sign on the front door that says that they are now closing at 4 p.m.  The reason given [...]

So what is “Authentic Community?”  We [...]

Underlines

Do you like to underline verses in your Bible or do you prefer your Bible to be clean and unmarked? Either way is fine, but let me give you a little nudge toward underlining by sharing with you a couple of reasons why I do it. Obviously Scripture is powerful all the time, [...]

Approaching God

prayer

In my Bible reading in Genesis, it’s been interesting watching the unfolding relationship between Abraham and God. In Genesis 17, the Lord appears to Abraham and Abraham’s response is to fall down on his face before God. In 17:17, God continues talking and Abraham falls facedown again. In 18:2, Abraham bows low to the ground before God. But finally, in 18:22-23, Abraham is standing before God and even approaches Him to ask God’s mercy upon the people of Sodom and Gomorrah…
