It seems to me that it is largely ignored in our forward thinking society. A lot of people say that because Jesus was the new covenant that the OT is no longer applicable to our lives and our Christian development. However, in my OT history class, we learned that Jesus didn't bring a new covenant but that he was the fulfillment of the Abrahamic or Mosaic covenant of the OT.
